George Gerlach

In the early 60's, George and his friend Paul Ruger built their first surfboard in Lancaster, PA. George would spend his summers in OC, and the first time he took his board to the beach everyone came up to him asking questions. It was at that moment he knew what he was going to do. In 1962, he opened Surfer's Supplies, the shop on Asbury Avenue and history is still being made there to this very day.

Surfing was been central to George's life. He lived above his shop Surfer's Supplies, among dozens of surfboards and Cubist-inspired paintings purchased on his annual October trips to Biarritz, when the surf in the French Basque country is robust and powerful. He surfed the Jersey Shore all through the winter and competed in surfing competitions all over the country.
